Acne family!

What is the first word that comes to mind when thinking of clogged hair follicles with oils and dead skin cells? Well, the first word to describe this skin condition would be acne. There are different names for different types of acne conditions.

I never knew there are seven different types of acne:

  • Blackheads: open bumps filled with oils, dirt and dead skin cells.
  • Whiteheads: closed pores with clogged oils and dead skin cells.
  • Papules: appeared in a pink or a red bump on the skin.
  • Pustules: inflamed pimple that contains pus.
  • Fungal acne: the development of excessive yeast infection in the hair follicles. It could lead to itchy and inflamed skin.
  • Nodules: are the large and solid pimple that is deep in our skin, may be painful.
  • Cyst: Pus filled pimple.

How is acne treated?

The primary step to treat acne is to choose the right cleanser. The best acne cleansers are the ones that have the same p.H level as our skin.

  1. Lumispa Acne treatment cleanser
  2. Lumispa Sensitive treatment cleanser
  3. Nutricentials: Cleansing Gel

Those are the three facial cleansers that I recommend for acne-prone skin lovelies. These are my favourite facial cleansers that I switch between according to my skin condition.

The other essential treatment that we need to apply to the acne to prevent it from further developing on our skin, these following ingredients are commonly used to treat acne:

  • Benzoyl peroxide
  • Salicylic acid
  • Glycolic acid
  • Retinol/Retinoid
  • Azelaic acid
  • Tea tree oil
  • Witch hazel

These ingredients are well known for clearing acne and reducing inflammation on the skin. It depends on your skin condition, whether you prefer to go with peroxide and acid-free ingredients or if you prefer to go with what the pharmacist would recommend.

Those ingredients above are proven to clear acne with their anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. I think most of those ingredients are great with clearing out my acne, especially when using glycolic acid, salicylic aid and retinol in my skincare routine. I find those three ingredients are combined and used together deliver a great result on my skin.
